Arts Teaching Expression of Interest (EOI)
Monash is committed to the creation of pathways to more secure fixed-term and continuing employment, where this is appropriate for the individual situation and work category.
There are circumstances where sessional employment will be required, and we will continue to engage and renew sessional academic staff where it is determined to be the most appropriate mode of employment, aligned with the new definition in the Closing Loopholes Act and our job security commitments.
The Faculty of Arts is now seeking expressions of interest for potential sessional work opportunities in Semester 2, 2026.
If you wish to be considered for sessional academic work in Semester 2, 2026, please express your interest by submitting an application using the link below.
- NEW STAFF (who do not hold a valid Terms of Engagement from 2025 or Semester 1, 2026): If you did not complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Semester 1 teaching, please do so. This will allow us to better understand your specific teaching interests and experience, helping us to align them with potential needs across our teaching. (If you have already submitted an EOI for 2026, there is no need to re-submit unless you would like to update your application).
- CURRENT SESSIONAL STAFF (who hold a valid Terms of Engagement for 2026): There is no requirement for you to update your existing EOI. However, if there are changes to your personal details, you are welcome to refresh your records to ensure they remain up to date.
Please note that submitting an EOI does not guarantee sessional work in Semester 2, 2026.
You will receive a confirmation message upon submission of your registration, and will be contacted further if:
- sessional work becomes available that aligns with your specific teaching interests, experience, and disciplinary background, and
- your application is successful and a tutor coordinator wishes to pursue your registration.
We look forward to receiving your application.

General conditions on teaching
There is a general Faculty principle of a maximum of 20 hours (actual face to face teaching and associated work) limit per week of teaching for all sessional staff.
HDR restrictions on teaching
If you are currently enrolled as a HDR student (full time or part time), your work commitment should not normally exceed 20 hours per week: that is you may teach a maximum of six hours face-to-face per week. This will optimally be in one unit but may be in more than one unit provided the delivery and preparation time do not exceed 20 hours in total.
Full-time enrolment requires the student to devote at least 4 days each week to the pursuit of their study program and related activities, including Monash Doctoral program, supervisory meetings and other research activities.
Students and their supervisory team should discuss, agree and document the schedule of work hours and days. This is required over a 7-day calendar week, recognising the need for flexibility in working/research training arrangements.

TEQSA/Deemed Equivalence
TEQSA (Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency) introduced revised standards as of 1 Jan 2017 which require positions that involve teaching to have qualifications at least on AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) level higher than the program being taught or Equivalent relevant academic and professional or practice-based experience is required.
The revised standards require universities to establish a defensible framework for assessing whether a person, who does not have the required level of qualification, can be deemed to have the equivalent to the AQF standard and to record the decision. This is only relevant to the following disciplines and will require the Arts Academic Deemed Equivalence CV be completed and uploaded within the online form.
