About this project

This project will be delivered through a partnership between Monash University’s Gender and Family Violence Prevention Hub (MGFVPH), Monash’s School of Social Science and Monash Indigenous Studies Centre, and our project partners: Griffith University and No to Violence (NTV). This project will develop national standards for Men’s Behaviour Change Interventions, avoiding one-size-fits-all assumptions and instead promoting consistency while enabling contextual responsiveness. This project will also establish guidance for contact with affected family members, in particular recognising the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, LGBTQIA+ communities, people with disability, and regional, rural and remote communities.

Research aims

  • Stage One will involve the development of the National Standards for Men’s Behaviour Change Interventions.
  • Stage Two will involve development of the Guidance for Contact with Affected Family Members and the Final Report.

Method

Stage One will involve:

  • Co-design workshops with DSS
  • A rapid evidence assessment (REA). The REA will inform the development of the draft National Standards. The final output of the REA will be a practice-oriented evidence base
  • Stakeholder consultation

Stage Two will involve:

  • Consultations with the Department, jurisdictional working group, state and territory government and Commonwealth agency representatives, and the Lived Experience Advisory Committee (LEAC)
  • The data from these consultations will be translated into the draft Guidance for Contact with Affected Family Members, grounded in real-world experience/practice and research.

Funding Acknowledgment

This project is funded by the Australian Department of Social Services.
