Building a foundation for collaboration on gender equality: Korean-Australian connections

Project team

Chief Investigators: Hyein Ellen Cho, Marie Segrave, Kate Fitz-Gibbon, Siru Tan and Stefani Vasil

Priority area: Strategic International Relations

Country location: Australia and Republic of Korea

Project Description

This project will bring together 13 researchers and advocates on gender in/equality as part of a larger partnership project seeking to build a foundation of knowledge exchange and collaboration between South Korea and Australia through the development of a collaborative research network in gender equality research, education, and practice.

Activities scheduled for the South Korean delegations' visit in February 2023 will create evidence-based outcomes of people-to-people links, as described in the recent Australia-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The project outcomes will be made available to the wider audience in both Korean and English.

Most of the South Korean researchers and advocates involved in this project have previously completed their research degrees in Australia. This will be a unique opportunity to reconnect and form ongoing partnerships with Korea-based Australian alumni who work in the areas of gender and human rights. As a result, this will establish a foundation for continued collaboration, research, and promotion as well as create an opportunity to strengthen regional responses to gender-based issues.
