The Future of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda: A Crisis or an Opportunity?

The Latin American Security and Defence Network (RESDAL) and Monash GPS are co-hosting a webinar, “The Future of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS)  Agenda: A Crisis or an Opportunity?” It will bring together military professionals and experts from the Global South to explore the future of the WPS Agenda and lessons from the Global South to help navigate the backlash the agenda has faced in the Global North recently.

As the world evolves, with global and local challenges rising and becoming multi- faceted, there are questions regarding the future of the WPS Agenda: is it coming to an end, does it need a new strategic direction, or is now the time for more robust engagement and commitment to the principles underpinning the agenda?


This will be a dynamic discussion and dialogue—rather than a series of presentations—focused on the future of the WPS agenda. Experts from the Global South will share their perspectives in an open exchange, offering insights on the evolving direction of the agenda.

This webinar is part of RESDAL’s series “Interregional Conversations from the Global South”, which seeks to create a space for exchange among professionals in the Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the MENA region on the participation of women in peace operations, with a focus on preventing sexual harassment and abuse within security and defense forces. Through these interregional dialogues, the aim is to enrich the global debate with perspectives from the Global South and to contribute to the creation of safer and more inclusive environments for women in these settings.
Each session features experts from various regions, enabling a cross-cutting and enriching discussion on shared challenges and potential solutions from the Global South.
