About us
Monash Global Peace & Security Centre (formerly Monash Gender, Peace and Security Centre) seeks to advance innovative and transformative approaches to global peace and security challenges in an increasingly complex world. Through an intentionally feminist and interdisciplinary approach, our ambition is to mobilise research to prevent or end conflict and (re)build thriving communities that are free of threat and insecurity.
We investigate transnational security issues that intersect with conflict and peacebuilding, and pose threat to the human security of global communities. This includes the climate crisis, the mass displacement of peoples, socio-economic inequalities, and technological advancements such as artificial intelligence. Through our commitment to feminist research principles that privilege the voices of those often silenced or ignored, our research advocates for inclusive efforts to foster peace and security, recognising that inclusivity leads to more equitable and sustainable peace. This includes advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda and the Youth, Peace and Security agenda.
Our research informs scholarly debate, policy development and implementation, and public understanding about the complex nature of insecurity and the search for peace. In addition to research with international, government and industry partners, community-engagement with civil society, and academic publications, Monash GPS academics engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching, executive education and PhD supervision.
