Lily Yulianti Farid, 1971-2023
Global Encounters Monash is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Dr Lily Yulianti Farid, on 10 March 2023 in Melbourne. Much will be written about Lily’s work and legacy in the coming days, months, and years. She was a writer, researcher, producer, diplomat, conduit, wife, and mother. She was energetic and funny, contemplative and wise.
Wherever she went, Lily had friends and commanded respect. She faced all her challenges head-on. She could turn a photo into a funny meme in less than a minute. Lily was, above all else, generous, she cared for us like family, and like family, we feel her loss deeply. Over the past few years, we have bathed in her warmth and kindness. Our encounter with Lily was too short, but we will do our best to traverse the doors she opened. Her legacy will live on.
