Student internship in Tasmania
Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies student Alexandra Bongouvert was one of two French translation students nationwide selected to participate in an internship at the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) in Hobart recently. Here is her reflection on the two-week programme:
“I had the opportunity to work on real-time translation projects in a controlled learning environmen
t, gain hands-on experience in a professional setting, and become more familiar with CAT tools. It was also a wonderful experience to learn more about CCAMLR's work on the conservation of Antarctic marine ecosystems and its different research programs and conservation measures, which was all new to me. I felt challenged in terms of the difficulty of the translations but also excited at the prospect of putting the skills I have developed in the classroom to use in a professional setting. The MITS program provided me with the translation knowledge and skills I needed to apply to the translation process and also assisted me in addressing translation issues and making appropriate decisions.”
