Understanding the terminology
Within the Bachelor degree, units are broken down into three levels. Each unit is typically worth 6 credit points unless otherwise indicated on the unit handbook.
The unit codes all begin with three letters to indicate which faculty/school they are from and four numbers.
E.g. ATS1056
- The letters ATS indicates that it is an undergraduate Arts faculty unit.
- The first number ‘1’ indicates that it is a level one unit.
- The latter number ‘056’ is to differentiate this unit from other level one Arts units.
First Year Enrolment
For single Bachelor of International Relations students beginning at the start of the year, your recommended first-year enrolments should consist of the following:
- ATS1056
- ATS1945
- ATS1071
- ATS1873
- Four Free Elective units*
For students starting mid-year, you just need to enrol into semester two units only (4 units - including ATS1056, ATS1945, two Free Elective Units).
*Free electives are only required for students in Single degrees. They can consist of units from across Monash. You just need to make sure that you meet all enrolment conditions listed on the unit’s handbook.
