Archaeology and ancient history

Step into the world of ancient civilisations through the study of artefacts, texts and built environments. From the classical cultures of the Mediterranean to the histories of Indigenous Australia, archaeology and ancient history reveal how past societies lived, thought and shaped the modern world. You’ll develop skills in critical inquiry, cultural analysis and research, which provide a foundation for careers in heritage management, education, museums, conservation and beyond.

Bioethics

Bioethics explores the ethical challenges that emerge where science, technology and humanity intersect, from genetic editing and artificial intelligence in healthcare to organ transplantation. Drawing on philosophy, law, medicine, sociology and public policy, this field equips you to assess complex ethical issues with clarity and depth. You’ll gain expertise in ethical reasoning and interdisciplinary analysis, preparing you for careers in healthcare, law, journalism, research, public health and more.

History

History uncovers the ideas, movements and individuals that have shaped societies across time, from medieval Europe and the American Civil War to modern Asia and Indigenous Australian histories. Studying history helps you understand change, challenge assumptions and connect past and present. You’ll develop strong skills in research, analysis and communication, which are valuable in education, diplomacy, journalism, public policy, museums and other sectors.

Holocaust and genocide studies

Examine the origins and impacts of genocide, from the Holocaust to contemporary atrocities. Explore how and why genocides occur, the experiences of survivors and the roles of media, justice systems and international responses. This field builds expertise in ethical reasoning, historical analysis and global awareness, preparing you for meaningful work in education, law, media, museums, advocacy, government and related areas.

Human rights and social justice

Investigate the causes and consequences of global inequality, poverty and displacement. You'll examine key issues like activism, human rights and the protection of marginalised communities, with a focus on ethics, advocacy and systemic change. This field cultivates critical thinking, communication and global awareness, preparing you for impactful work in a wide range of sectors including NGOs, international development, policy, law, and media.

Indigenous studies

Explore the histories, cultures and lived experiences of Indigenous peoples through a multidisciplinary lens. Jewish studies

Gain insight into Jewish civilisation through the study of its languages, texts, history, law and philosophy. Explore topics such as conflict and coexistence, Jews and popular culture, and the Jewish migrant experience.
