Inclusive Peace & Security
The Inclusive Peace and Security research cluster includes social science researchers addressing current and emerging threats to peace and security, including armed conflict, political and private violence and other transnational threats. Research also investigates ways in which those threats are addressed, through peace negotiations, peace agreements, peacekeeping, reconciliation, peacebuilding, human development, and efforts to prevent and counter the threats posed by social and political violence and other transnational security threats (including nuclear weapons, forced migration, and food, water and energy insecurity). Fundamentally, research within this cluster analyses how approaches to address such threats can be inclusive of diverse and marginalised communities (especially those who are the most impacted by such threats) and thereby able to be more responsive to and effective in addressing such threats. Aligned with this epistemological position, research methods used are predominantly, but not exclusively, qualitative, feminist, participatory and action-oriented; aiming to include and positively impact research participant communities and advance inclusive practice and policy in the field of peace and security.
