The Monash Engineering Co-operative Education Program (Co-op) is designed to equip students with up-to-date, relevant industry experience and prepare them to become engineers of the future. Co-op provides employers with access to exceptional students for paid internships from Australia’s number 1 Engineering Faculty*.
Monash as the country's leading engineering school has been listening and engaging with industry to ensure that our engineering graduates are able to take on the challenges in industry and make an impact even before they graduate. As an important industry partner you have the ability to shape the journey of our students as they study.

The program offers the flexibility of engaging students for a three or six month term and employers will have unprecedented access to our talented students and leaders of the future. A three-way partnership actively links areas of expertise with our engineering academics and industry to help support the students industry experience, working with employers to achieve your organisational goals and ensure you can select from a number of likeminded suitable students.
For an injection of new thinking, or extra support for short-term projects, the Monash Engineering Co-op Program enables industry to access Monash Engineering talent while nurturing early career connections with our top students.
You will undertake meaningful work-based learning to provide an enriched experience and equip you for your future career as an engineer. You can explore different industry sectors, understand what it is to be a working engineer, and connect your experience to your studies in a more practical way. Your preparatory pathway includes modules such as employability, problem-solving, and leadership skills tailored to prepare, motivate and equip you with career-ready skills. You will gain valuable professional development, culture sharing and personal growth from participating in the experience.
Co-op will support you to:
Find meaningful engineering related work experiences that will help you explore and prepare for potential future careers, to further understand what it is actually like to be an engineer in the workforce
Be better prepared to select electives and to take on other relevant co-curricular activities that will best prepare you for your future career
Complete at least two paid terms with industry which will help to build your exposure in a range of industries; seeing different systems, work styles, technical problems, processes, all to improve your versatility as an engineer
Use your Co-op terms towards your required Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours
You will have ownership over the selection process and benefit from having interns making a difference to your organisation. Co-op gives you the opportunity to act as co-educator whilst supporting and guiding students through the Co-op term. Our students are selected through a competitive application process and must attend our robust employability skills program that ensures they are significantly prepared to work within your organisation.
As a valued industry partner you have the opportunity to support students through a paid Co-op term of three, six or in some cases, 12 months.
You can play a part in providing our students with up to date, relevant industry experience, whilst meeting a short-term business need or supporting your longer-term goals to attract new talent through the Co-op program talent pipeline.
