ENG4804 - Co-op Professional Practice Handbook

Enrolment information

ENG4804 Professional Practice (Co-op)	Semester 1 Semester 2 Summer	Enrolling in this unit will require students to notify the Co-op team of their Co-op sourced or self-sourced internship by completing the confirmation of employment form. If approved, the Co-op team will administer the ENG4804 enrolment. Students cannot self-enroll in this unit via WES.	It is advised that you enrol in ENG4801 as part of the standard process. If you have successfully received a Co-op internship offer and wish to complete ENG4804 instead, your enrolment will be amended to reflect the unit. Students can complete the confirmation or employment form to notify the Co-op Team of the change.

Please note these units are not available to Software Engineering students. Software Engineering students must follow their current course structure.

Application process for enrolment

Step 1: Student finds a suitable paid engineering internship (Co-op sourced or Self-sourced).
Step 2: Student confirms the internship with the Co-op Team by completing the confirmation of employment form.
Step 3:
- Self sourced internships: Student and Employer (Host) will be required to complete the Student Placement Agreement. Students are required to complete Schedule 2 of the agreement. It is the student's responsibility to arrange for their host to sign this document. Students are to return the completed form to the Co-op Team by emailing eng.coop@monash.edu.
- Monash sourced internships: Students are required to complete the Student Acknowledgement Form (Schedule 2) and return the signed copy to the Co-op Team via eng.coop@monash.edu.
Step 4: Application review and outcome.
Step 5: Successful students are enrolled in ENG4804 by the Co-op team. If you are enrolled in another Professional Practice unit, eg, ENG4801, this will be removed and replaced with the Co-op unit, ENG4804.
Step 6: Enrolled students will receive access to the Co-op Unihub and Moodle sites. Students begin mandatory induction and completion of the required assessment tasks by their due dates.

FAQs

- ENG4801 - enrol on WES from Sem 2 2024. This unit will be offered in both semesters from 2025 onwards.
- ENG4802 - enrol on WES from Sem 1 2024
- ENG4803 - we’ll enrol you if you have applied for and been offered a place in the unit. In the meantime, you should enrol in the Sem 1 old professional practice unit or if it's for sem 2, enrol in ENG4801
- ENG4804 - we’ll enrol you if you have applied for and been offered a place in the unit. In the meantime, you should enrol in the Sem 1 old professional practice unit or if it's for sem 2, enrol in ENG4801
No. Professional practice experience must be undertaken at the same time as a student's enrolment in ENG4802, ENG4803 or ENG4804.
We’ll discontinue you from the old unit and enrol you into ENG4801 for sem 2 2024 before the academic year begins. If you’re planning to take one of the other options, this is how you enrol:
- ENG4802 - you can discontinue from ENG4801 and enrol in ENG4802 via WES
- ENG4803 - we’ll enrol you in this unit if you’re offered a place in this unit. In the meantime enrol in ENG4801
- ENG4804 - we’ll enrol you in this unit if you’re offered a place in this unit. In the meantime enrol in ENG4801
All Engineering undergraduate students who meet the prereqs and have not already taken their Professional practice unit (except Software Engineering students). Software students are prohibited from these units.
Non engineering students can enrol in ENG4802 if they are current member of Engineering or IT Team and they have the approval of their faculty to count the unit towards their current course.

- CIV4286 Project management for civil engineers
- MEC4404 Professional practice
These units traditionally run in Sem 2 and will not be offered again:
- ECE4099 Professional practice
- MTE4201 Materials in a complex world 3: Impact in society
- TRC4002 Professional practice
If you need to take one of the old Sem 2 units you must now take one of the four new Professional practice units in Sem 2.
