The Advanced Multi-Functional Composite Materials Group

The multi-functional composites group is based in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Monash University. Our research group is primarily involved in developing novel advanced multi-functional composite materials for “smart structures” applications (aerospace, naval, civil engineering, and energy). i-Composites lab is a very multi-disciplinary group, as any multi-functional materials must include elements of materials characterisation, manufacturing, data acquisition/sensing, and multi-physics modelling.

The schematic shows the multi-disciplinary research topic on advanced multi-functional composite materials going through conventional NDT, autonomous robot, structural health monitoring, nanocomposites, multi-scale multi-physics modelling, and bio-inspired morphing materials.
