IITB-Monash Research Academy
Established in 2008, the IITB-Monash Research Academy is a partnership between Monash University and the Indian Institute of Bombay. The Academy’s joint PhD programs address the growing need for multidisciplinary research and finding innovative solutions to global challenges.

Monash University Partners with Apollo Hospitals
Monash University’s Faculty of IT has teamed up with Apollo Hospitals to advance digital health research and technology in India and Australia. This partnership fosters collaboration in clinical AI and digital health solutions, offering Monash students hands-on project experience at Apollo while providing educational sessions for healthcare professionals.
PhD Collaboration Highlight
The Group of Eight CE, Vicki Thomson, engaged with PhD students at UNSW during a collaborative event with India’s Minister for Education, The Honourable Dharmendra Pradhan. Monash University’s Rohith Prakash shared insights on his research into the safe transport and storage of liquid hydrogen and reflected on the meeting.
Monash PhD Student Advances Hydrogen Research
Rohith Prakash, a Maitri Scholars Program recipient from Chennai, is researching the safe transport and storage of liquid hydrogen at Monash University. His work focuses on reducing sloshing and boil-off rates, critical for its use as a clean energy carrier. Supervised by Dr Tom Hughes, this project is part of the $2.2 million Australia-India Maitri Scholars Program, fostering collaboration in clean energy solutions.
MSDI Drives Sustainable Development in Asia Pacific
Associate Professor Shirin Malekpour represented MSDI at the Asia Pacific launch of the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) in Delhi, India, on 22-24 October. As a UN-appointed scientist, she contributed to this key report, which outlines strategies to achieve the SDGs. The event focused on implementing GSDR recommendations, with attendees including government officials, city leaders, and UN agencies from across the region.
Monash University partners with Manipal Institute of Technology
Monash University and the Manipal Institute of Technology, part of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, have announced a new dual degree partnership creating pathways for Indian students to study software engineering or chemical engineering in Australia.
