Put theory to the test as you design real solutions
Join the Industry Innovation Program (IIP) to gain real industry experience, sharpen your problem-solving skills and boost your employability.
Spark innovation in the brand-new Monash Innovation Hub, where you’ll be supervised by an expert academic. You’ll collaborate with an industry partner and other talented IIP students across STEM disciplines.
You might redesign inefficient processes, develop better products – or deploy exciting new technologies. And the best part? You’ll receive a scholarship to support your studies.
Launch your career with the IIP
What you’ll gain from the program
- Highly relevant industry experience and in-demand professional skills
- Final Year Project (FYP) delivered through ENG4701/FIT4701 and ENG4702/FIT4702.
- CPD hours that contribute towards your engineering degree
- An industry-sponsored scholarship, typically paid at the end of each quarter
How the program works
| 1. | Browse: Search and view placements on IIP Advertising Portal. |
| 2. | Agree: If you’re successful, you’ll complete an agreement that confirms the project’s scope and your responsibilities |
| 3. | Apply: Submit your expression of interest. If you receive an interview – with Monash and the industry partner – we’ll help you prepare with work readiness training. |
| 4. | Engage: You’ll start your IIP (FYP) in Semester 1 or Semester 2. In addition to your day-to-day activities, you’ll also complete a project plan, reflective diary and final report. |
| 5. | Complete: After you fulfil your hours, you’ll complete a post-project survey. And if your IIP goes really well? The business might hire you as an employee or implement the solution. |
Meet the Monash students thriving in industry
"The Industry Innovation Program has allowed me to practise my engineering skills in the area of mechanical design integrated with thermodynamics, process control and chemical engineering. The IIP has given me valuable experience in research based innovation, working to organisational project timelines and industry guided prototyping and testing. As a result, I have developed a strong understanding of carbon dioxide capture and recycling technologies, while gaining a wider awareness of industry based engineering and the academic research process."
Maksis Darzins,
IIP candidate, Woodside Energy
"Monash University's IIP program has been an incredible experience, bolstering my independent work habits and research skills. Collaborating with Wave Consulting Australia on a technical project, we had the privilege of visiting their head office, receiving invaluable guidance while gaining insights into their consulting expertise. Monash University further supported us with a dedicated workspace and an academic supervisor. Having successfully designed and prototyped our grey water filtration system, we are now immersed in the construction stage, where hands-on learning and trial and error has aided our manufacturing skills. My semester working with Wave Consulting Australia during the IIP has been a great experience."
William Wang, IIP candidate, Wave Consulting
"My involvement in the Industry Innovation Program has enhanced both my technical, soft skills and future career pathways. I was able to practise my engineering design, simulation and prototyping skills to innovate effective solutions that tackle real-world problems. The experience of working with industry while accessing Monash University technology has given me insight into the new energy field and the potential of what engineers can achieve."
Joel Wong, Bachelor of Engineering, IIP candidate, Wave Consulting
"Participating in the Industry Innovation Program was a unique experience where I was given the opportunity to build upon my practical engineering skills through designing and building a prototype for a sustainable greywater filtration system. Being able to work with Wave Consulting taught me a lot about the various elements of water sensitive design, with the focus on bringing to life natural solutions to issues around water pollution and filtration. It was an inspiring testament to the power of innovation and environmental consciousness. I highly recommend others to consider the program as it offers the ability to gain real world experience whilst utilising the various high-tech facilities around Monash University."
Christopher Scott, Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science, IIP candidate, Wave Consulting
