Software Engineering
Monash University is home to one of the leading Software Engineering (SE) teams in the Asia-Pacific region. Working at the intersection of SE and Artificial Intelligence (AI), we design pioneering methods and technologies to build complex software systems. Driven by our mission – IT for Social Good – the human aspects in SE are of utmost importance to our work.
Our research is focused on three emerging areas:
-
Social and ethical software
Our SE researchers are defining new paradigms for social and ethical software by integrating the ability to consider societal impact.
-
AI and automation
We are using AI techniques to automate different stages of software development – and build reliable, secure, unbiased and user-friendly systems.
-
Software quality
This area focuses on the development of new tools to test the quality of complex software systems.
Fortifying our digital economy
Learn how our researchers are thwarting malware and ransomware epidemics to curb cybercrime in Australia.
Our award-winning team is paving the way
Some of our team members rank as ‘most active’ and ‘most impactful’ according to the prestigious “bibliometric assessment of software engineering scholars and institutions (2010–2017)”.
Opportunities for PhD research
You can do big things at Monash. Things you simply can’t do anywhere else.
HumaniSE Lab
The HumaniSE Lab focuses on incorporating real human needs, values and abilities into software engineering.
Developing software with social and ethical values
With a focus on privacy, social justice and inclusion, we’re developing a Values Debt Framework (VDF) to ensure human values in software have a positive economic impact on an organisation.
