The theme of 'play' in the project was inspired by the fact that people living in large cities nowadays enjoy and relax with plants and nature. The location of my project is in the city of Shenzhen, which I am familiar with, where the pressure of work has always left people in the city feeling breathless. At the same time, the rapid urbanization of the last decade has caused the irreversible disappearance of many forests and natural landscapes from Shenzhen. Through speculative design, I hypothesize the creation of a mock botanical garden in the future city of Shenzhen to satisfy people's sensory needs for nature and to provoke a reflection on the destruction of nature through ‘play’.

Exterior View

With the current phenomenon of people destroying nature but enjoying it, I asked the question, "If the urban forest does disappear from Shenzhen in 100 years, how will we find nature solace again through play in a city that has been replaced by buildings?"

In the sensory layer "Sight"

Visitors can use the screen to make all the virtual plants appear in the space.

In the sensory layer "Touch"

Touching different natural textures, bringing back the feeling of nature. On the touching surface, the tactile sensor for vibrations follows the texture of the plant and transmits to the hand.

In the sensory layer "Hearing"

Pull the vines (made from recycled materials), listen to the sound in nature

In the sensory layer "Olfactory"

On the top, the smell diffuses to all the sensory spaces, which makes other sensory layers have a better experience. On the wall, different nature smells evoke olfactory memories
