Eating disorders

Over one million Australians are living with an eating disorder, the most fatal of all mental health disorders, and over 75 per cent will never seek any form of treatment or support.

While much research has been conducted on the well established link between self esteem and negative body image in the onset and development of eating disorders, to fully understand the aetiology of eating disorders, it is important to also understand the biological changes that occur in response to factors such as trauma, and how they lead to disordered eating and eating disorders.

Biologically based research will also be best placed to guide the development of new treatments that can improve the currently unacceptable outcomes for people with this life threatening disorder

We have developed a comprehensive program of research to understand the underlying biology of eating disorders, as well as a battery of clinical trials of new approaches to managing and treating them. Specific details of the program will be published here once the details and funding are confirmed and available.
