About us

VCOR is a Clinical Quality Registry (CQR) coordinated by Monash University in conjunction with the participating public and private Victorian hospitals. We aim to improve the safety and quality of care provided to patients admitted to hospital for management of cardiovascular conditions.

Overview

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death and disability in Australia. Each year there are approximately 56,000 heart attacks across the country.

VCOR collects highly standardised data about patients undergoing relevant cardiac treatments, procedures and interventions, and follow up data on medical outcomes and complications up to 30 days after a patient has been discharged from hospital. The outcomes of interventions and treatments are reported back to hospitals and relevant stakeholders.

VCOR reports provide a unique opportunity for health care providers to benchmark their performance against other public and private Victorian health services and drive improvement.

The data captured within VCOR can be interrogated to answer important medical questions around how to improve outcomes for Victorians with cardiovascular disease. Research projects utilising anonymised data are a secondary activity managed under the auspice of a sub-committee. These projects are another way to maximise use of the dataset, with the aim to inform the medical community and potentially further improve patient outcomes.

Aims

Our key aims are to:

• Benchmark clinical outcomes and improve patient care
• Provide meaningful feedback
• Identify areas of excellence & opportunities for improvement
• Inform clinical guidelines and policies
• Provide insight into the safety of cardiac services
• Identify population groups that may require better access to care
• Provide a dataset aligned with the National Cardiac Registry (NCR)

Funding

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides ongoing funding for the PCI module. Monash University has provided and continues to provide considerable in-kind support for VCOR.
