Data collection

Data modules

VCOR has a focus on cardiac outcomes, and it is anticipated that the registry will expand to collect a comprehensive dataset for many different cardiac procedures, treatments and interventions across metropolitan and regional Victorian health services.

VCOR currently has two data collection modules: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) and Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIED). These datasets include demographics, hospital admission data, clinical symptoms and presentation, pre-procedural risk factors and procedure details to discharge. Patients are followed-up at 30 days to check on their health status after their procedure.

Data is collected for every patient undergoing a relevant cardiac procedure, treatment or intervention in participating Victorian health services.

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

PCI is a non-surgical procedure used to treat blockages in a coronary artery and is used to open up the blocked or narrowed section to restore the blood flow to the heart.

Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED)

VCOR collects data on two specific CIED’s. Implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICD) which are an effective treatment for abnormal, rapid and potentially lethal heart rhythm, and Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy CRT’s which involve synchronised pacing of the left and right ventricles of the heart in patients with diseased heart muscle (cardiomyopathy).

Future modules

As new modules are approved for data collection, health services will be engaged and invited to participate. Hospitals participate in each module voluntarily. It is not compulsory for participating centres to contribute to all VCOR modules.

Participating hospitals

Victorian hospitals voluntarily participate in VCOR. There are two different Data Collection Modules for which sites can choose to contribute if they offer the relevant treatment/services. The Registry currently universal participation across Victoria in the Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).

For information about the hospitals participating in each module, please see below.

If you’d like to consider having your hospital contribute data, please refer to our For Healthcare Professionals page.
