If you’re thinking about life after Year 12 – or supporting someone who is – understanding our campuses can help you picture your day-to-day experience at Monash. We have four primary campuses across Victoria – Clayton, Caulfield, Parkville and Peninsula – each with its own strengths, study areas and student experience. (We also have international campuses in Malaysia, China, Italy, Indonesia and India.)

Here’s what sets them apart.

Clayton: a full campus experience with everything in one place

Located 20 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, Clayton is our biggest campus – home to eight of our 10 faculties and more than 45,000 students.

With everything you need in one place, Clayton has a true ‘campus city’ feel. You’ll find extensive on-campus accommodation options, food outlets, health and wellbeing services, sporting facilities, study spaces and a packed calendar of student events – all within walking distance.

As our main campus, Clayton offers one of the widest range of study areas at Monash. From engineering and IT to science, law, medicine, arts and business, many courses are based here. It’s also home to some of our largest lecture theatres, cutting-edge research facilities and major student hubs.

From live music and free food to day trips and social sport – each semester is jam-packed with opportunities for you to connect and settle in.

Caulfield: our creative, professional and connected hub

Just nine kilometres south-east of Melbourne, Caulfield is our second-largest campus, with over 17,000 students.

With a more compact layout than Clayton, Caulfield offers a well-connected, city-adjacent experience. With trains, trams and buses all nearby, and Caulfield station directly opposite the campus, getting to and from campus is simple.

The campus has a creative and professional atmosphere with dedicated studios, workshops, high-tech media labs, and collaborative learning spaces designed to reflect real-world environments.

You might study at Caulfield if you’re interested in:

Despite its smaller footprint, Caulfield has a strong sense of community. Student-led clubs, social events and campus activities make it easy to connect with others and feel part of something from day one.

A free inter-campus shuttle runs between Caulfield and Clayton, making it easy to travel if your studies span both campuses or if you choose to live on-campus at Clayton.

Peninsula: a smaller, close-knit campus by the coast

Our Peninsula campus is located in Frankston, around 55 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, at the gateway to the picturesque Mornington Peninsula.

With approximately 4,000 students, Peninsula offers a smaller, more personalised study experience – set in a relaxed, coastal environment.

Courses here are focused on education, business and allied health. The campus has strong links with local communities and industry partners, particularly across healthcare, giving students valuable real-world experience throughout their degree.

Parkville: specialised study in the heart of Melbourne’s health precinct

Located just minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Parkville is our most specialised campus and home to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

With around 2700 students, Parkville offers a focused and intimate learning environment for students studying pharmacy or pharmaceutical science. It sits within Melbourne’s renowned health and biomedical precinct, surrounded by leading hospitals, research institutes and industry partners.

Studying at Parkville means being immersed in a world-class research and healthcare environment. You’ll be learning alongside experts and within close proximity to organisations shaping the future of medicine and science.

Where will you study?

One important thing to remember is that your campus is determined by the course (and units) you choose, as different study areas are based at different campuses. As you explore your options, consider both what you want to study and where that course is offered. This way, you can better envision what your university experience might look like day to day.

Regardless of where you study, you’ll be part of a connected Monash community, with access to expert teaching staff and dedicated support services. You’ll have opportunities to build friendships, gain real-world experience, and develop skills that will enable you to lead and make a difference in a rapidly changing world. You’ll become adaptable, innovative and globally competent – ready to thrive in your chosen career.
