There is no cost to submit a request in Dataplace. However, the Data Custodian (Commonwealth agencies) may charge a fee for the data.
When you submit your request for data, ask if fees apply. And confirm if that’s likely to change if the DSA takes time to finalise; as this may impact your grant/funding if negotiations on the DSA take time (i.e.12+ months). Confirm costs throughout the process.
If you are provided a per hour cost, ask for an estimate of the total charge based on what you require.
ONDC isn’t involved in setting the fee schedule and there’s no schedule that covers all the Commonwealth agencies.
The DATA Scheme is another pathway or option to request data to be shared or accessed. It does not replace any other avenues. You can still go directly to agency portals i.e. ABS, BoM, AIHW, but some of these may involve a fee to submit a request.
You are responsible for covering any costs associated with the data or its integration, treatment, or storage requirements (if you are not using the SDE). Ensure your project, research group, grant or faculty have available funds for this activity.
