Intercultural Studies Section
Based in the School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, the Intercultural Studies Section supports the University's commitment to ensuring intercultural competence as a hallmark of a Monash education. The Section works across Monash's Australian campuses and Monash Suzhou to deliver undergraduate and graduate education programmes tackling intercultural questions from a variety of scholarly and professional standpoints.
Scholars affiliated with the Section have significant research expertise in intercultural and transcultural studies, including translation and interpreting, cultural literacy, migrant cultural studies and adjacent fields of the humanities and social sciences. These scholars also contribute to the Monash Intercultural Lab, our platform for intercultural research, engagement and outreach.
The Section also works to foster inclusion social cohesion in the communities in which the University operates. This includes improving accessibility and engagement for diverse student groups, engaging with diverse communities to develop the University’s educational approach and intercultural competence curriculum.
The Intercultural Studies Section aims to build enduring partnerships with industry, government and other national and international organisations to address current global intercultural competence challenges and to maximise the impact of its education and research.
