Dr Aaron Day

Dr Aaron Day is originally from Adelaide, South Australia, and has a strong background in chemical synthesis. He completed his PhD at the University of Adelaide under the supervision of Associate Professor Jonathan George, with a thesis titled The Total Synthesis of Chromane Natural Products via Biomimetic Cascade Reactions.

Following his doctoral studies, Dr Day undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, working with Professor Timothy Donohoe on the development of synthetic methodologies for the reductive functionalisation of aromatic heterocycles. In 2023, he returned to Australia to join the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), where he worked with Dr Dan Priebbenow at the interface of synthetic methodology and medicinal chemistry.

Dr Day has authored 10 peer-reviewed journal publications, including five as first author. He currently works within the Australian Translational Medicinal Chemistry Facility (ATMCF), supporting medicinal chemistry and drug discovery research across a range of collaborative projects. Since 2025, he has been involved in a MedChem Australia research program, contributing his expertise in synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

In addition to his research activities, Dr Day serves on the social committee of the MIPS Early and Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) Society and represents MIPS within the Melbourne Emerging Leaders in Biomedical Research (MELBR) network, an inter-institutional initiative that supports the development and collaboration of emerging biomedical researchers.
