  • Overview of Monash Vision Group

Monash Vision Group (MVG) is a Melbourne-based collaborative partnership between Monash University and Alfred Health. MVG's primary goal is to develop a clinically viable cortical vision prosthesis - known as the Gennaris bionic vision system or ‘Gennaris’.

Gennaris has been designed to bypass damage to the eye and optic nerve, to restore functional vision to people who have lost their sight through traumatic injury and conditions such as glaucoma and acquired retinal disease.

Established in 2010 with funding from the Australian Research Council, MVG has been supported through two cornerstone donations from Drs Marc and Eva Besen and The Alan and Elizabeth Finkel Foundation, with additional funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council, BioMedTech Horizons program, Medical Research Future Fund, and from the Monash Engineering and IT Faculty Foundation.
