Community of Practice

The Data Fluency initiative at Monash operates as a community of practice with the aim of facilitating collective learning.  By providing skill development workshops, weekly drop-in sessions and various events and initiatives, the Community provides a forum for participants to learn, share and enhance data fluency skills through regular interaction.

Data Fluency has been built on the success of The Carpentries - an initiative dedicated to teaching foundational coding, and data science skills to researchers worldwide. Like the Carpentries community, Data Fluency is committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all people. A growing number of our community members are becoming certified Carpentries instructors to better enable them to run accessible, inclusive workshops, high-quality, community-developed lessons, and foster an active, inclusive community that promotes and models reproducible research.


Join the Community! There are many ways you can connect with the community to develop your own data fluency skills, or to share your knowledge and experience with other members.

Workshops are a great way to develop new skill in using, exploring, interpreting and visualising data in a meaningful way.

Data Fluency Drop-Ins

Drop-in sessions

Drop-in sessions are an opportunity to show people what you're working on, ask for help or share your expertise with others. They are also an opportunity to connect with other members of the Data Fluency community.

These informal sessions run online every Friday, 3 - 4 pm. Register through Zoom.

You can also post your questions to the Data Fluency Slack channel.
