News: Future Grid Homes: An investigation of emerging relationships, needs and strategies for Australia’s electricity grid

“Through household and industry research, we are identifying how best to engage households towards coming changes in the energy market and electricity sector. There’s no one best way, but rather a variety of different pathways which our research seeks to highlight.” Associate Professor Yolande Strengers

Project Lead: Associate Professor Yolande Strengers (Monash)

Researchers: Dr Larissa Nicholls (RMIT) and Dr Andrew Glover (RMIT). Research support from Dr Paula Arcari (RMIT) and Rex Martin (Monash)

Changes in energy generation, supply and demand are providing opportunities for (and sometimes require) greater participation from energy consumers to interact with electricity products, providers, services and technologies. However, best practice models are yet to be established for this new operating environment.

The Future Grid Homes project, funded by Energy Consumers Australia, involves qualitative research with energy sector professionals and Australian households who have experience of demand management and/or new energy technologies (e.g. solar PV, battery storage and electric vehicles).

The aim of the project is to identify best practice engagement strategies, concepts and relationship models that will help the energy sector to deliver a reliable, affordable and sustainable future electricity system.
