Core Research Themes
Computational Design
Computational design is the application of computational strategies and models to the design process. We aim to make use of CAD tools, optimization algorithms, as well as data-driven or AI models to help designers to further improve the product's functional performance. Besides that, other key product life-cycle considerations, such as cost, environmental impact, will also be considered.
Smart Manufacturing
Smart manufacturing is a technology-driven approach that employs a wide range of digital manufacturing technologies with advanced AI techniques. Our lab focuses on the developing of core techniques in smart manufacturing to further improve the efficiency and adaptability of manufacturing processes by taking advantages of the data collected from the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a type of manufacturing process which fabricates the part directly from its 3D model, usually, layer upon layer. By joining materials, AM processes can fabricate parts with multi-scale complexities. Our lab focuses on developing advanced AM processes and its related design methods to further improve the functional performance of designed products.
