Monash Infrastructure launches seed grants

The Monash Infrastructure launched a seed fund on 6 October 2016 to initiate new interdisciplinary research projects in infrastructure.  Industry and government partners are welcome to be involved.  The MI Seed Fund can fund research to undertake a feasibility study that addresses  a research question posed by an organisation external to Monash University.

The objective of the MI Seed Fund is to seed new infrastructure research projects across disciplines and across different groups of researchers, which have significant potential to grow into bigger initiatives.  We also want to establish new links with government, company and community partners  in infrastructure.

The research projects will run for the calendar year of 2017.  Monash Infrastructure will award grants of between $25,000 and $50,000, following an internal competitive selection process.  Industry and government are welcome to co-invest with the MI Seed Fund grant.  At  a minimum, a government or industry partner in a MI Seed Fund proposal needs to provide a letter of support with the application.

Monash University researchers apply for the grant.  Applications are due by 18 November 2016, for projects to commence in January 2017.  A requirement of the grant is that a minimum of two researchers from two faculties need to involved from the Faculties of Arts, Art Design and Architecture, Engineering, IT and Monash Business School.

Some examples of interdisciplinary research projects in infrastructure at Monash University researchers include:

- Future water scenarios for Elwood: Adapt, Defend, Retreat.

- Understanding and Improving Gender Diversity in the Public Transport Workforce

- Australian Housing & Transport Affordability
