Monash Infrastructure’s theme leader Professor Graham Currie and his Public Transport Research Group win best research paper at 14th World Conference on Transport Research

Continuing the theme of award winning papers, Monash Infrastructure Transport Theme Coordinator, Professor Graham Currie and his PTRG research colleague Alexa Delbosc won the Best Paper award in the Transport Policy Stream at the 14th World Conference in Transport Research at Tongi University, Shanghai, China in July.

Their paper titled ‘An Empirical Model of the Psychology of Deliberate and Unintentional Fare Evasion’ resulted from the contract research engagement with Public Transport Victoria. The research project aimed to understand the psychology behind fare evasion in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and to provide actionable recommendations to improve fare compliance. Results were used to develop statistically reliable models explaining fare evasion behaviours for deliberate and unintentional fare evasion.

Monash Infrastructure Transport Theme Coordinator Professor Graham Currie said, “The award provides a strong academic endorsement of the work of PTRG which was very successful in reducing revenue loss from fare evasion”. The paper was selected from over 200 papers from leading researchers across many countries.

Professor Graham Currie, Monash Infrastructure Transport Theme Co-ordinator, receives the “Best Research Paper” award from Professor Yoshi Hayashi, President of the World Conference on Transport Research Society.
