Intelligence & Insights undertakes reporting and analysis across Monash and the external environment, to provide a robust evidence base around the University’s impact and successes, and to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.

About business dashboards

Intelligence & Insights has developed a range of business dashboards in Power BI to provide timely and accurate information on Monash University, and the external higher education landscape. These business dashboards are intended to complement the suite of enterprise reporting dashboards developed and maintained by the University’s Data Engineering Services team.

Getting access

Monash University has strict data governance standards and processes to ensure the consistent, integrated and effective use of enterprise data. Because of this, not every staff member will have access to every dashboard. For many dashboards, especially those dealing with sensitive data, access is only given to staff in roles that data governors have identified as needing access for bona fide purposes. Access provisions are listed against each business dashboard below.

Information available through Power BI dashboards is strictly for internal use only. Release of the information contained within these dashboards to non-University staff will be treated as a serious breach of our Code of Conduct.

Performance Indicators

The Key Performance Indicators dashboard allows users to track University-wide and faculty-level progress towards achieving the goals set out in the Impact 2030 Strategic Plan.

University Rankings

The World University Rankings dashboard features ranking outcomes from the four ranking agencies actively monitored by Monash:

The QS Academic Reputation dashboard provides insights into Monash University's academic reputation using data from the QS Academic Reputation (AR) indicator.

Admission Pipelines

The VTAC Weekly Pop-Polls dashboard presents weekly Monash popularity poll data from the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), offering valuable insights into the domestic student market in Victoria and informing the performance of Monash courses.

VTAC Simulation Report dashboard summarises the number of offers issued in each round by Monash and other Victorian institutions.

The VTAC State-Wide Application dashboard presents finalised VTAC main round data, including detailed information on applicants' demographics, course preferences, and their admission outcomes.

The State-Wide VTAC Detailed Pop-Polls dashboard presents state-wide VTAC popularity poll data, facilitating competitive analysis at the course level across institutions.

Enrolments and Load

The Load Planning and Performance dashboard facilitates the monitoring of student load at Monash, including forecasts, plans and historical trends, specifically for institutional load planning purposes. For general analysis purposes, current and historic enrolment and load data is available through the Enterprise Student Enrolment dashboard.

The Australian Higher Education Load Trends dashboard provides a detailed overview of student load (EFTSL) in Australian higher education courses, to inform course development and review processes.

Learning, Teaching and Student Experience

The QILT Reporting dashboard is a consolidated report of key indicators from the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) initiative. QILT is a suite of government endorsed surveys for higher education, across the student life cycle from commencement to employment.

The Unit Health Check dashboard provides an overview of student academic performance in their units of study, with a focus on units classified as ‘high failure’ (that is, with failure rates of 15 percent and above). Results are stratified by student sex, citizenship and socioeconomic background.

Research and Graduate Research

An enterprise-level Power BI solution that supports the graduate research community by providing trusted access to HDR data. It delivers high-level strategic insights across frequently reported KPIs through a live connection to education and research candidature data.

This reporting suite provides a comprehensive summary of ARC and NHMRC grant announcements, supporting high-level reporting and strategic insights across Monash University, while delivering an enterprise reporting solution that offers a consolidated and consistent view of historical grant outcomes, enabling users to access grants data for both strategic and operational reporting.

Student Equity

The Equity Profile dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of Monash University’s student equity performance, including enrolments of students from traditionally-disadvantaged backgrounds, and the academic performance of these students relative to the broader domestic student population.
