Initiatives
Monash-wide initiatives
We were the first university in Australia to have a dedicated Australian Indigenous Centre – the Monash Centre for Research into Aboriginal Affairs, established in 1964. The legacy of that Centre continues through our Indigenous student support teams, Indigenous studies program and Indigenous graduates of the Monash Orientation Scheme for Aboriginals.

Indigenous IBL Guarantee
All first nations students are guaranteed a place in our IBL program.

Indigenous university games
Monash University sends a team to the Indigenous Nationals Competition (Indigenous Uni Games) – a competition attended by Indigenous university students from across the country. Sports competed in are netball, volleyball, touch rugby and basketball.

MRS buddy program
Monash University, through the Monash Residential Services and the William Cooper Institute, have established a buddy program for new Indigenous students. The program is opt-in, and sees interested students paired with a fellow Indigenous student from MRS, from the same course of study (if possible). The mentor shares with the mentee their experiences of commencing study, and assists with the transition to university life.

National Indigenous Space Academy (NISA)
The program, led by Professor Christopher Lawrence and supported by the Australian Space Agency, provides rich learning and research in space and space robotics for First Nations STEM students across Australia.

College Clash
Monash University has an Indigenous team that competes in the College Clash as a non-Residential College.
