Research projects
Our researchers are leading projects in partnership with Indigenous Elders and communities that focus on Indigenous cultural heritage, human rights, rights in records and data sovereignty.

Celebrating Indigenous Culture
Indigenous languages hold important stories of human history, sustainable management of natural resources, and traditional knowledge, so through finding an interactive and engaging tool to promote intergenerational knowledge sharing will not only help preserve Indigenous language but promote richer cultures.

Koorie archiving: Trust and technology
The Trust and Technology project developed a Statement of Principles relating to Australian Indigenous knowledge and the Archives. In this foundational project, Interviews and focus groups were held with members of Koorie communities across Victoria including members of the Stolen Generation.

Lifelong rights in childhood records for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
Developing the Charter of Lifelong Rights in Childhood Recordkeeping in Out-of-Home Care is research in progress. It addresses the critical information needs of children and young people in Care, and all of those of any age who have exited the Care system.

Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Living Archives of People and Place
Working with Indigenous collaborators, we're researching and co-designing structures, charter, frameworks, protocols and models for transformative participatory practice in relation to information and recordkeeping.

Beyond the Animations: A Sustainable Living Digital Heritage Archive
This initiative explores how to respectfully represent Aboriginal knowledge, cultural protocols and community archiving requirements when creating a sustainable living digital heritage archive.

Reclaiming and Refiguring the Archives to Support Indigenous Wellbeing and Sovereignty
This PhD project explores whether current dominant approaches to archiving and managing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges support the wellbeing of Indigenous people and recognise their sovereignty in an archival context.
Seeking new collaborations
Our research team is always looking to establish projects that address the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We are also keen to partner with Indigenous researchers through new funding applications, which we support through seed funding.
