Reading and Spelling Interventions
Is your child finding it difficult to learn to read?
We are excited to be offering a new service at our clinic - academic interventions.
Our academic intervention clinic is for children in Prep, Grade 1, or Grade 2 who are experiencing significant difficulties with early literacy development and may benefit from intensive support outside the school setting. This program may be especially valuable for families who feel their child is currently under-supported within the school system, or who are concerned that their child is continuing to fall behind despite classroom instruction.
This intensive academic intervention program aims to:
- identify and target the underlying skills impacting literacy learning, including phonological awareness, automatic code (phonics) knowledge, decoding skills and encoding (spelling) skills.
- strengthen these foundations that may be blocking a child's progress at school
- build confidence and engagement with learning
- help children make meaningful progress and begin to catch up with peers
The program will:
- Use explicit, direct instruction informed by the science of learning
- run for 12 weeks starting in Term 3
- involve attendance at our clinic in Notting Hill 3 days per week for one hour per day (at time time suitable to you, please complete EOI to tell us which are the best times for you)
- be delivered by provisional psychologists / or pre-service teachers under the close supervision of an experienced teacher and psychologist
- Involve an initial baseline assessment, which will include measures such as CTOPP-2, TOWRE-2, YARC
- Ongoing use of data-based decision making using curriculum-based measures (including DIBELS - data available to parents) to closely track progress and guide intervention intensity and targets
We are passionate about intervening early and helping to “steer the ship around” while children are still in the critical early years of literacy development.
Places will be limited. Cost for the entire 12 week intervention will be $500 - approximately $13 a session.
