Session title: Model Defamation Provision Amendments 2020 – much needed reform or missed opportunity?

This seminar will examine the Model Defamation Provision Amendments 2020 that have been approved by the Council of Attorneys- General and are expected to be enacted by each of the States and Territories in the coming months. They contain significant amendments, including a new serious harm threshold, more stringent requirements for the initiation of proceedings, a new public interest defence and amendments to clarify the operation of the cap on damages.
