Talking points
Reader's note
These stories have been designed to help children learn about the connection between movement and emotions. As a parent or carer, you can help your child(ren) by reading the stories with them, and talking about how their experiences compare to those in each story.
When reading the stories, some talking points or questions you could use include:
- Coming up with different situations that may elicit a specific emotion.
- Thinking about why they may experience that emotion.
- Thinking about what that emotion feels like in their body.
- Thinking about the types of thoughts they may have when they feel an emotion.
- Coming up with other movements they like to do.
- Thinking about other more complex emotions they may feel sometimes, such as feeling regret, jealousy or pride.
- Talking about different levels of the same emotion, such as terror versus apprehension.
- Pointing out that everyone experiences emotions differently and that there are lots of different ways to manage big emotions.
