The Curiosity Factory

The Curiosity Factory's mission is to inspire the next generation to be scientific literate and to develop the 21st century skills required to tackle the challenges they will face.

In our increasingly technology dependent world, some 90% of future jobs will require STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) skills, but according to the Department of Education, only around 10% of Australian high school students are electing to study STEM subjects, leading to a steep decline in scientific literacy levels.

Curiosity factory’s mission is to reverse this trend by providing early positive science engagement to upper primary school students through its first program STEMpals. STEMpals, is a penpal program where students are paired with STEM professionals to exchange one letter each term, and thereby fostering scientifically curious minds at a formative age.

Research and data indicates that STEMpals has a profound impact on science engagement for the students involved. Additional benefits include teachers who report feeling more empowered and capable of teaching scientific concepts and STEM professionals improving on their own science communication skills.

STEMpals is inspiring the next STEM generation one letter at a time.
