Brii Biosciences

Gram-negative ‘superbugs’ top the World Health Organisation’s Priority Pathogen List, with the potential to kill 10 million people per year by 2050.

Brii Biosciences is trialling a novel polymyxin antibiotic to combat antimicrobial resistance, developed by Monash University researchers. This new drug is addressing an unmet medical need for people infected with these antibiotic-resistant ‘superbugs’, as current polymyxin antibiotics are limited by kidney toxicity and poor efficacy against lung infections. Left untreated, these bacteria can cause a range of serious infections including pneumonia and meningitis.

Deemed a global health crisis, the battle against antimicrobial resistance is being led by Monash University and Brii Biosciences showing great potential to save lives and minimise the global threat of superbugs.
