argenx partners with Monash University to expand innovation collaborations in Australia

argenx, a global immunology company committed to improving the lives of people suffering from severe autoimmune diseases, and Monash University, have signed a strategic partnership to advance a pioneering molecule for autoimmune diseases. This is Monash's first partnership with argenx and the second research and development partnership for the company in Australia. The company opened its Australian affiliate office in early 2025.

argenx and Monash University are collaborating to advance an antibody molecule in pre-clinical development, with the shared ambition of one day addressing diseases with significant unmet need for patients.

“Australia has built a world-class environment for innovative research,” said Kathryn Evans, General Manager, argenx Australia. “This collaboration with Monash University reflects our continued interest in engaging deeply with Australia’s research community and learning from the scientific rigor and creativity that exists here. I’m looking forward to partnering with a team that values open exchange, long-term perspective, and a shared commitment to advancing science in service of patients.”

“This partnership is an excellent demonstration of what’s possible when leading researchers and industry partners come together with a shared commitment to achieving impact in areas of significant unmet need,” said Dr Ingmar Wahlqvist, Acting Chief Commercialisation Officer at Monash University.

“We are excited by this combination of Monash’s research expertise and argenx’s global development capabilities. It highlights Monash’s commitment to industry collaboration, especially when it has the potential to deliver positive benefits for patients worldwide and long-term value for both organisations.”

The partnership was initiated as part of argenx’ Immunology Innovation Program (IIP). Through its IIP, argenx works closely with leading scientists around the world to source novel biology that may lead to treatments for patients living with rare and underserved immunological conditions. argenx combines the expertise of partners with its own antibody-engineering capabilities to develop precision therapies that target the underlying biology behind disease.

The partnership will span key milestones from early-stage research, with the goal of reaching clinical trials and registration. It represents a critical step in the translation of Monash research through the clinic for patient impact.
