If you’re exploring university options with your child and planning to attend Open Day, you’ll have the opportunity to experience first-hand the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere across our campuses.
Starting university is a significant step, both academically and personally. It brings new routines, greater independence, and a shift in expectations. While this is an exciting time, it’s also completely normal for both students and parents to have questions about how to manage this transition.
At Monash, your child won’t have to navigate this experience alone. From their very first day, they’ll have access to a comprehensive network of support designed to help them feel confident, capable and connected – academically, socially and personally.
Support that meets your child where they are
The transition from school to university looks different for every student. That’s why we offer flexible, accessible support services your child can use at any stage, whether they need quick guidance or more ongoing support.
Some of our key services include:
Looking after health and wellbeing
Adjusting to university life can take some time. New environments, workloads, social circles and, in some cases, living arrangements can all play a role. Monash provides a comprehensive range of health and wellbeing services to support students through this transition:
Support for individual needs
If your child experiences circumstances that affect their ability to study, there are tailored services in place to support them. This includes students who:
- live with a disability, medical or mental health condition, or are neurodivergent
- have ongoing personal or family responsibilities
- experience unexpected challenges during semester
Depending on their needs, support may include adjustments to assessments, extra time in exams, flexible study options, or access to assistive technology. The goal is to remove barriers and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed in a way that works for them.
Practical support for everyday life
University life extends beyond the classroom, and practical challenges can sometimes impact a student’s ability to focus and perform. We offer support across key areas, including:
These services are designed to support your child’s overall experience, alongside their academic progress.
Helping your child find their place
A strong sense of belonging plays an important role in student success.
At Monash, there are many ways for students to connect. Whether it’s through clubs, societies, cultural groups, volunteering, peer mentoring, campus events, or our flagship educational experiences.
Getting involved can help your child:
- Build friendships and support networks
- Gain confidence in a new environment
- Feel more connected to campus life
Even small steps, like attending a student event, joining a club, or the peer mentoring program, can make a big difference in helping students feel at home.
Supporting your child to grow with confidence
University is about more than academic achievement. It’s a time for students to grow in independence, build confidence, and explore who they want to become. At Monash, your child will be supported along the way, with the people, services and community to help them navigate challenges and make the most of their experience.
As a parent, you don’t need to have all the answers. But you can feel confident knowing your child will have access to the support they need to thrive.
