Works updates

The Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) will continue to provide detailed information on upcoming works to Monash University, which will be updated on this webpage.

Main construction works have begun

In May 2026, the SRLA commenced excavation for the underground station and preparing for future tunnelling activity.

The site of the new Monash Station at the corner of Normanby and Howleys roads, looking south with the Monash campus in the background.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Traffic changes and travel impacts
    • Increased truck and construction vehicle movements will occur as works increase.
    • SRLA traffic controllers will be in place at key points surrounding the campus, including Normanby Road, Howleys Road and Blackburn Road.
    • You may experience temporary lane closures, changed traffic conditions and occasional delays.
    • Tip: Give yourself a little extra travel time when heading to and from campus.
  • Noise
    • Noise from construction activities will be contained to the work site.
    • For most staff and students, noise should not be audible from within campus buildings.
    • It may be more noticeable for those located close to the construction site.

  • From Wednesday 10 June, construction activities will increase to 24 hours per day, with night works commencing as follows:
    • Workdays: Monday to Friday (Saturdays will be used only as a contingency, if required)
    • Day shift: 7am to 6pm
    • Night shift: 5pm to 4am.
  • Night works are required to help the project stay on schedule.
