Hafidz Wahyuni

Hafidz Fadli Wahyuni is a PhD candidate studying Islam in Indonesia under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Julian Millie and Dr. Aydogan Kars. His doctoral project explores Mawlid al-Barzanji recitation rituals in Indonesia, focusing on the ritual processes, including the material dimensions and ritual acts, their connection to the textual culture of Mawlid narratives, and how social hierarchies, constellation of powers, and religious authority are reflected through this widespread devotional practice among Indonesian Muslims. Fadli earned his Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from the University of Indonesia in 2017, majoring in Arabic Studies, and completed his Master’s in Arabic Literary Studies at the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2021. His thesis examined the concept of divine love in the works of Indonesian poet Abdul Hadi W.M. in comparison with Ibn ʿArabi’s Tarjuman al-Ashwaq (the Translation of Desires). In 2023, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers from King Saud University, recognised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia as equivalent to a master’s degree in second language education.

Fadli has published in academic journals on Arabic literature, second language teaching, and Arabic literature and Islamic culture in Indonesia. To access his list of publications, click here.
