Prospective students
Reproduction in Society welcomes Higher Degree Research (HDR) students interested in the ethical, legal and social issues raised by new and emerging practices and technologies in reproductive biomedicine. We offer PhD positions through traditional or industry-linked pathways.
HDR projects typically fall under one of our research themes and often involve a combination of ethical analysis, empirical research, policy analysis, and evaluation or implementation research. Many of our projects involve collaboration with external partners such as healthcare services, genetic testing organisations, or professional bodies.
Industry PhD Opportunities
We are particularly interested in supervising students through industry-linked PhD programs, including the Australian Government National Industry PhD Program. These PhDs are co-designed with industry, clinical, or policy partners and involve joint supervision from university and industry supervisors. Projects typically focus on policy-relevant research, technology implementation, program evaluation, or regulatory and governance issues.
Industry-linked PhD projects are particularly suitable for candidates interested in or who wish to upskill their careers in policy, healthcare, regulation, industry, or applied research.
Who Should Apply
We welcome applicants from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, including bioethics, philosophy, law, public health, anthropology, sociology or social science, health policy, medicine, and psychology. Applicants must have an interest in the ethical, legal and social dimensions of reproductive and genetic technologies and in research that has real-world policy or practice impact.
Prospective students are encouraged to get in touch with RIS leadership to discuss eligibility, potential research topics and HDR pathways.
