Why study the Master of Professional Engineering?

The Master of Professional Engineering provides a solid foundation for professional development and gives you an edge in the competitive graduate employment market.

Gain a professional edge

Designed in consultation with the national industry body Engineers Australia, the program outlines how economic, social, ethical and environmental considerations impact professional practice. You also learn how to apply your engineering knowledge to managing projects in an intercultural and multidisciplinary business environment. And you expand your critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork and communication skills – all of which will sharpen your edge in the global workforce.

From the perspective of a professional engineer, you explore the contemporary and complex global issues affecting organisations. You also learn to perform data analysis on industrial scenarios and make recommendations that support business growth. In your final year, take part in research and design projects, that offer opportunities to work with multidisciplinary teams or industry, blending theory and practice and putting into action all that you’ve learned during the course.

Maximise your potential

All Master of Professional Engineering students are required to complete the equivalent of 12 weeks of Continuous Professional Development (CPD). CPD is an opportunity to engage in business and engineering-related activities and to grow your professional networks.

This encompasses approved professional development activities such as industry work experience, volunteering, career sessions and field trips. Your reflections on the experiences, with particular reference to the development of each of the key Engineers Australia Stage 1 competencies are recorded regularly in an online platform.

The program integrates leadership and professional development activities through a range of channels – including coursework, continuous professional development, multidisciplinary team design and research projects and work integrated learning. Our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program provides students with an opportunity to take their skills further with an internship with one of our partner organisations.

During the master’s program you’ll build on your technical knowledge, gain practical experience, grow networks and develop the skills and confidence for you to create positive change.
