Prof. Bijan Shirinzadeh
Bijan Shirinzadeh holds qualifications in BE (Mechanical), BE (Aerospace), MSE (Mechanical), and MSE (Aerospace) from the University of Michigan, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering (robotics and automation) from the University of Western Australia. He has held various positions in academia and industry, including fellow at the University of Western Australia and senior research scientist at Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization, Australia. Professor Shirinzadeh is currently a full professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Monash University, Australia. He is also the director of Robotics & Mechatronics Research Laboratory, which he established in 1994. His current research interests include micro-nano manipulation mechanisms and systems, intelligent sensing and control, kinematics and dynamics of mechanisms, automation and automated manufacturing, intelligent mechatronics and autonomous systems, robotic-assisted minimally invasive microsurgery, biomechatronics, and complex systems modelling and analysis. Prof. Shirinzadeh has published in more than 250 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in the above areas of research.

Yuet Hang Simeon Cheuk
Simeon Cheuk graduated from Monash University Australia with a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering. He is current researching on Automated Fibre Placement on Complex Contoured Surfaces. He is also interested in research on miniature hybrid rockets including propulsion systems, fibre-reinforced composite oxidizer tanks and thrust vectoring control systems.
Rohan Nowell holds qualifications in BE (Aerospace) and BS (Applied mathematics and Physics) from Monash University. He is currently a Postgraduate student with the Robotics and Mechatronics Research Laboratory at Monash University. Rohan’s current research interests are surgical robotics, haptic feedback, machine learning and numerical modelling.
Joshua Pinskier received the Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering (Hons.) and Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degrees from Monash University in 2015. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. on the topic of haptic control of micromanipulation, through which he has investigated scaled haptic control architectures, and the design of dexterous micromanipulators for microassembly. Joshua received the Best Student Paper Award at the 2015 International Conference on Manipution, Manufacturing, and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO 2015), and was nominated for the Best Application Paper Award at the 2016 International Conference on Manipulation, Automation, and Robotics on Small Scales (MARSS 2016). His research interests include micro/nanomanipulation systems, teleoperation, microassembly, cell handling, and real-time control.
Robert Porter holds qualifications in BE (Aerospace) (Hons), and BSc from Monash University. He is currently a PhD candidate with the Robotics and Mechatronics Research Laboratory, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Monash University. The title of his PhD research is "Establishment and Intelligent Motion Control of an Overactuated Autonomous Multirotor Helicopter". Robert's current research interests include overactuated control systems, intelligent and adaptive control systems, aerial vehicle design, and complex systems modeling and analysis.
Tianyao Shen holds the BE (Mechanical Engineering) and MSE (Mechanical Design and Theory) qualifications from the Tongji University. He has been a PhD candidate in Robotics & Mechatronics Research Laboratory since 2016. His thesis is about the force feedback in microinjection system. His current research interests include microinjection mechanisms and systems, cell mechanics and computer vision.
Taran Batty has a Bachelors of Mechatronic Engineering (Honours) and a Bachelor of Science from Monash University. Taran is currently undertaking a Masters of Engineering Science (Research) on Robotic Minimally Invasive Surgical Systems, under the supervision of Bijan Shirinzadeh. His research interests include robotic surgery, teleoperated robotics, haptics, and control systems.
Huaxian Wei received the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and Automation degrees from China University of Mining and Technology in 2012. He is currently a PhD student in the School of Mechatronic Engineering at China University of Mining and Technology, and a visiting PhD student in the Robotics and Mechatronics Research Laboratory (RMRL), Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Monash University. His research focus is on the topic of design, sensing and control of multi-DOF flexure-based nano-manipulators.
Pan Zhao holds qualifications in BE (Mechanical), MSE (Measuring and Testing Technologies and Instruments) from Xi’an University of Science and Technology in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He is a PhD student in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern Polytechnical University, and currently a visiting PhD student/scholar in the Robotics and Mechatronics Research Laboratory (RMRL), Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Monash University. His current research interest is parameters identification and optimization for thermoset composite structure in winding and laying process.
