Laser-based sensing and tracking for dynamic measurements
The object of this project was to establish a unique research facility in laser-based sensing and tracking for dynamic measurements. The facility was successfully developed. It consisted of laser-interferometry-based sensors, tracking assembly, high precision platforms for stationary and field use, advanced software utilities, calibration retroreflectors, etc. The capability of the facility was unique for laser-interferometry and tracking providing a nominal tracking speed of 6 m/s. The accuracy of laser-based sensing and dynamic measurements could reach up to 0.05 micrometers (50nm).

Three dimensional shape measurement and visual servoing
The aim of this project was to establish methodologies for 3D shape measurement, and calibration techniques for matching of component features and identification marks with high precision. This research also aimed at planning for automated trajectory generation of multi-arm fettling and automatic 3D inspection of manufactured components and dies.
Content
Long reach manipulation
It is a two-link manipulator with a reach of 5 m designed and constructed for many practical applications such as the repair of high voltage transmission towers and lines, the inspection of underground storage tanks, the repair of bridges and space systems maintenance. This project focuses on the identification of its kinematic parameters using laser-based position sensing, and eventually exploiting from input shaping methodologies to eliminate the residual vibrations of its tip point.
