Invisible Coders: Understanding the Experiences of Neurodivergent Women Across Software Engineering Practices

Supported by

EDI Research and Improving Practice Fund

This project investigates the experiences of neurodivergent women across software engineering practices. Findings will inform the development of inclusive evaluation approaches in collaboration with industry practitioners, supporting practical and evidence-based changes to promote equity, wellbeing and sustained participation in the software engineering workforce.

Phase one has been completed, with results accepted for presentation at the 2026 International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) under the paper title ‘Invisible Load: Uncovering the Challenges of Neurodivergent Women in Software Engineering’.
