2017 Castan Centre Global Interns

The Castan Centre has awarded five 2017 Global Internships to Monash Law students who have shown a strong and continuing interest in the study and practical application of human rights. These Internships take place over Summer 2016/17 at Human Rights First, New York City; Centre for Constitutional Rights,  New  York  City; Southern Africa Litigation Centre, Johannesburg; the UN Human Rights Council, Geneva and International Service for Human Rights, Geneva.

These five students are given the unique opportunity to experience and contribute to international human rights organisations first hand. To find out more about the organisations and the background of the Castan interns, please see the intern profiles below.

Gemma Hallett, who will intern at Human Rights First , New York City.

Amy Myers, who will intern at the Center for Constitutional Rights, New York City.

Nicola Silbert, who will intern at the International Service for Human Rights, Geneva.

Jessica Fitzgerald, who will intern at the Southern Africa Litigation Centre, Johannesburg.

Madelaine King, who will intern at the Australian Permanent Mission to the UN Human Rights Council, Geneva.

The 2017 Castan Centre Global Interns are provided with financial assistance by Daniel and Danielle Besen, Sylvia & Michael Kantor, the Nordia Foundation, the Bennelong Foundation,  the Monash Law Faculty's Student Mobility Fund, and MyriaD Consultants, which conducts the cross-cultural training.

This year, the Global Interns will document their experiences on the Castan Centre Global Intern blog. Their posts will include updates on the work they are doing, reflections on the experiences they have had, and photos and videos of their time overseas.
