Writing the reference
The reference will present the details of your source in accordance with the referencing style you are required to use (for example, APA 7 or MHRA). Most often, the references are arranged in alphabetical order by the authors’ surnames, just like in a bibliography or reference list, but sometimes, the sources are listed from the most relevant or significant to least with respect to the chosen topic. For example, the reference might look like the following, shown in MHRA and APA 7.
MHRA style | Halsall, Guy, Barbarian Migrations and the Roman West 376-568 (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2008) |
---|---|
APA 7 style | Halsall, G. (2008). Barbarian migrations and the Roman West. Cambridge University Press. |
Detailed guidelines on how to properly format references can be found in the Library guide on Citing and referencing.
