Improving Healthcare Access for Deaf Malaysians
The Deaf In Touch Everywhere (DITE) app, developed by the HEARD project at Monash Malaysia, aims to enhance healthcare access for Deaf Malaysians, a community of over 42,000 individuals. It addresses communication challenges stemming from a shortage of sign language interpreters to lack of resources.
Key features include secure video conferencing with qualified interpreters during healthcare consultation, a medical terminology dictionary in Malaysian Sign Language (BIM). The app also provides health promotion resources in BIM, empowering Deaf individuals to make informed health decisions. Overall, DITE seeks to transform healthcare access for the Deaf community in Malaysia.
